There have been a few smartwatches to come along recently that we have a hard time believing could be real devices. Not so long ago, Kairos announced plans to make a traditional mechanical watch with a translucent OLED display to add smartwatch features. An amazing idea, but hard to believe can be made just yet. Now, Momentum Labs is showing off its Moment smartwatch which aims to offer 30 days of battery life and much more.
The Moment has an interesting design, because it is a simple bracelet with a digital watch face on top and all of the important smartwatch stuff on the display that sits on the inside of your wrist. The idea here is that messages would be kept a bit more private than if it were on the top of your wrist. Although, the entire surface of the wearable would be a 150 dpi display with full touch capability. The inside of the band would display a full QWERTY keyboard, which Momentum claims isn’t “inconvenient”, but looks pretty awkward to us in the demo video below.
To make the device even harder to believe, it houses a curved battery, the likes of which we’ve never seen even in concepts, all housed in a body said to be 0.9mm at the edge (likely thicker at the middle) and weighing under 100g. And, to top it off, the inside of the band has a spot for “Snapware”, which is a swappable module that could add new functionality by upgrading biometric sensors and more.
The company is aiming to eventually offer the Moment smartwatch for $230 retail, but will be starting out with a Kickstarter campaign. The Kickstarter will attempt to raise $300,000 for the materials and tools to build an initial run of just 500 units. It certainly looks too good to be true, but we love technology enough to hope it can be a reality.
