Trademark application backed up by appearance of VivoWatch on Asus website

Could Asus be the first company to launch a Windows powered smartwatch? It’s looking likely as a trademark application has shown up, dated 29 January 2015, detailing the Asus VivoWatch.

Not only that, Asus actually mentions the VivoWatch on its own website with the name showing up in the filter list for the customer service knowledge base.

Asus uses the Vivo label for its Windows PCs and tablets already, with the likes of the VivoTab Smart and the VivoPC currently in the shops.

The trademark submission to the USPTO details a “portable electronic device for use in achieving data exchange with an electronic personal organizer or a mobile device”.

It states the device will be able to “receive and display data from a mobile device including text messages, emails, calendar alerts and alarm alerts” and states the device will have “exercise monitors worn as a watch” and features a pedometer, heart rate monitors and GPS connectivity.

Asus chairman Jonney Shih stated recently that the ZenWatch sequel, dubbed the the Asus ZenWatch 2, would boast a seven day battery life. The Asus boss said, “As a companion device, its central processing unit and operating system should be more simplified than the current version, so that I can use it for up to seven days on one charge, rather than for just two days.”

CEO Jerry Shen confirmed back in December that a standalone smartwatch would arrive in Q3 2015, alongside two other new Asus wearables.

It’s believed the Taiwanese tech company is working on two “wristband-like” devices, with the new duo purportedly being able to count steps, measure bpm and record blood sugar levels.

Could one of them be the Asus VivoWatch? With MWC only a few weeks away, it might not be long until we find out.
