Aside from being known for its smartphones and home appliances, LG is also one of those companies which invest a lot in display technology. The company’s division for such things is called “LG Display” after all, and those of you who have followed the mobile world during the last year or so should recall the fact that the Korean tech giant has been the first to release a flexible display equipped smartphone. Well, actually, Samsung was the first with the Galaxy Round, but for me personally, the Round doesn’t really count, as it’s been a limited production and expensive device which compromised a lot for the sake of winning the race.

In any case, the idea is that LG is heavily invested in displays, and wouldn’t you know it, according to a fresh report, the Korean manufacturer is hard at work developing two new smartphone display technologies that aim at delivering lower power consumption, and of course, better quality.
LG Develops UV Alignment and N-type Liquid Cristal Displays

According to the Korean Media, LG Display has been working on a new type of smartphone display (AH-IPS – Advanced High Performance In-plane Switching – LCD) which will allegedly go into mass production sometime in the third quarter of the year. And just like we hinted above, LG’s upcoming display panel incorporates not one but two new technologies – UV Alignment and N-Type Liquid Crystal.

According to the report, with the help of the above-mentioned tech, the new display will have a 12% lower power consumption and improved contrast ratio and brightness (30% and 20% respectively).

Our regular readers should know that we’re all about lower power consumption, so we’re quite excited to find out that LG is constantly pushing the limits forward. Even more so if these efforts will also give us an improved panel with higher contrast and brightness.
