همان‌طور که می‌دانید امشب از ساعت 19:30 در کنفرانس Google I/O این کمپانی قصد دارد نسخه جدید اندروید را رونمایی کند. حالا بنابر منابع موثق نام نسخه جدید اندروید نیز طبق روال همیشگی یک خوراکی بوده و حالا که نوبت به حرف L رسیده گوگل نام Lollipop را انتخاب کرده است.
شاید بدانید که از نسخه اول تاکنون اندروید با نام خوراکی‌های مختلف نام‌گذاری شده است که حرف اول هر کدام هم به ترتیب حروف الفبای انگلیسی انتخاب شده است. پس از سه نسخه Jelly Bean و یک نسخه Kitkat حالا نوبت به Lollipop یا همان آبنبات چوبی رسیده است.
نام تمامی نسخه های اندروید ( به ترتیب حروف الفبای انگلیسی در حرف اول نام نسخه های توجه کنید ) :

- Android 4.4 Kitkat
- Android 4.1-4.3 Jelly Bean
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
- Android 3.0 Honeycomb
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread
- Android 2.2 Froyo

- Android 1.6 Doughnut
- Android 1.5 Cupcake
تاکنون اطلاعات زیادی در مورد ویژگی‌های جدید اندروید 5.0 منتشر نشده است و تنها دو تصویر از صفحه ورود به اکانت گوگل نشان دهنده تغییرات ظاهری این نسخه است. بهتر است تا ساعاتی دیگر و معرفی رسمی اندروید 5.0 توسط گوگل منتظر بمانیم؛ گفته می‌شود گوگل هم مانند اپل قصد دارد سیستم‌عامل خود را از این پس چند ماه پیش از انتشار رسمی معرفی کند.

The next version of Android will be a major release, and after years of 4.x versions, Google is ready to go to Android 5.0 with the name of another sweet treat – Lollipop, according to ‘reliable sources’ speaking for Bulgarian tech insider Nixanbal. Google continues on its tradition of naming Android versions with consecutive letters of the alphabet, and Lollipop comes after the following releases:
Android 4.4 Kitkat
Android 4.1-4.3 Jelly Bean
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Android 3.0 Honeycomb
Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Android 2.2 Froyo
Android 2.0-2.1 Eclair

The first two versions were simply referred to as Android 1.0 and 1.1 without any well-known public names associated with them.Of course, neither the version number, nor the name come as a huge surprise, but having the confirmation from a source with fairly spotless reputation (the same source had big scoops that turned out true about the LG G3 among others) is definitely appreciated.The new Android version will be unveiled at Google I/O today – stay tuned, as the event kicks off at 9am PT | 12pm ET today and you can watch the 2014 I/O livestream here.
