The iPhone 5s is not that much different in terms of chassis build than the iPhone 5, so one can expect pretty much similar results from its drop test like with the previous version, meaning it would hold up fairly well in falls from chest height, despite the rigid framing, unless it lands directly on the display.
The new plastic iPhone 5c is the bigger mystery here, as no doubt its housing would be more flexible to bumps and bounces. The drop test below, however, confirms that if the iPhone 5c lands squarely face-down on a hard surface, the screen is guaranteed to crack, despite the polycarbonate housing, which goes for most handsets as well.
