CyanogenMod 12 Nightlies Based on Android Lollipop Rolls Out to Select Devices
CyanogenMod 12 Nightlies Based on Android Lollipop Rolls Out to Select Devices
The Cyanogen team is rolling out the first round of CM12 nightlies that will support Lollipop-based builds. There will be 31 devices to be supported. The team will eventually increase the number of devices in the near future. The KitKat-based CyanogenMod 11 will get updates on a weekly basis until the team releases the M13. At this point, there will be a halt in the development. Though some bugs may appear, all supported devices should have the core functions in them up and running right away. Since the work on compatibility with Lollipop continues, the first Android 5.0.2 Lollipop-based CyanogenMod nightlies will be devoid of the features that the ROM is popular for. These include the theme engine, customizations to the navigation bar, quick settings ribbon mode, sound panel customization and quick unlock. These features are expected to become available in the coming days as more features will be added to the release. There is also a slew of new features that the team is working on. “CM11 features aren’t the only thing we’re working on, with new features such as Ambient display, a brand new Messaging app, and some small tweaks including a weather option in the new Lollipop extended status bar. Our team is continuing to work on new additions and we have some big plans ahead for L,” said CyanogenMod. The 31 supported devices on Day 1 have been identified as bacon, dlx, e980, falcon, flo, hlte, jewel, klte, m7spr, m8, mondrianwifi, t6, t6vzw, serranoltexx, v500, vs985, d802, e975, evita, find5, ghost, hltespr, jfltevzw, m7, m7vzw, mako, moto_msm8960, t6spr, serrano3gxx, shamu, and ville. Users who would like to find out if the CM12 nightly build is available for their device should expect to get bugs. If the bugs are a turnoff, the user would have to wipe data in order to go back to CyanogenMod 11. Moreover, the whole process of updating would require any non-Lollipop compatible user-installed apps to be removed. CyanogenMod will be adding more devices to the list every day. “We would like to note that at this point we consider ourselves 85 percent complete for our initial CM12 M Release,” said the team. “We’ll spend the remainder of this month bringing up additional devices and finishing up the features you’ve come to love from CM11 — implementing them into the new Material UI.”
